Olie Ritter was a professional cyclist from 1967 – 1977 and was a time-trial specialist. In 1968 he set the hour record with a distance of 48.653 KM. Then in 1972 the great Eddy Merckx broke Ritter’s hour record with a distance of 49.431 KM. In November 1974 Ritter attempted to break Merckx’s record.

I will post a series of videos over the next few weeks. First up are two videos telling the story of the battle between Jose Manuel Fuente and Eddy Merckx during the 1974 Giro d’Italia.

VDB as he was know was an extremely talented cyclist but equally plagued by family and drug problems. His life and passing reminds all cyclists of the life and passing of another talented but troubled soul the great Marco Pantani who was also 34.

In a recent town hall meeting on Heathcare reform Virgina Republican Congressman Eric Cantor explained his and the Rebulicans plan on Healthcare. First sell everything you own your car, house, everything so you can pay for your medical care or until you are poor enough to qualify for Medicaid a government run Healthcare program. But if that doesn’t work for you beg for charity. That’s “Compassionate Conservatism” working for you folks and proof they don’t care about people they only care about the Insurance companies that are padding their wallets.

Produced by an emergency physician (Paul Hochfeld), “Health, Money and Fear” answers three questions about our broken health care non-system. Why does is cost so much? What does it say about us? What can we do about it? While Congress is more focused on the symptom, lack of Universal Coverage, they are ignoring the underlying problem. COST. Unless they address the perverse incentives that drive up cost, the “reform” we are going to get will be more government subsidies so the insurance industry can continue to thrive being central to a dysfunctional health care system that is better at producing profits than health. The elements of the solution must address the elements of the problem: technology, the fear of liability, mass marketing of prescription drugs, the profit motive, chaos in medical records, unrealistic expectatiions, and the multitude of insurance companies that add substantially to cost without contributing anything to health.

But we have a bunch of ill-informed, uneducated, knuckeldraggers that are sucking up all of the of the corporate propaganda that is coming from the Insurance companies through the Republican party. These are the very same people that would benefit the most from reform but are too stupid to see the truth. Seriously how stupid are people if they believe the US government would create Death Panels or disabled people will lose all coverage or the myth about waiting months to see your doctor. Every American can go to the Library of Congress website and US Senate website and read the bills that are being considered for themselves.

I say FUCK the Republicans and FUCK the Insurance companies and go straight to a single payer system! The Republicans and Insurance companies have been fucking us over for decades. Obama and the other Democrats need to fight and get the Blue Dogs in line. The Democrats have the majorities in the Senate and the House of Representatives we don’t need to include the Republicans in the discussion period.

The first Rainbow Jersey up for grabs was the Under 23 Men’s TT which was won by Aussie Jack Bobridge with a time of 40:44 over the 33.2 KM course. With Nelson Oliveira of Portugal taking the silver medal 00:19 slower than Bobridge, and Patrick Gretsch of Germany taking the bronze medal 00:28 slower than Bobrigde.

Next up was the Women’s TT which was won by Kristin Armstrong of the USA in a time of 35:26.09 over the 26.8 KM course. Noemi Cantele of Italy won the silver medal 00:55.01 behind Armstrong, and Linda Melanie Villumsen of Denmark won the bronze medal 00:58.25 behind Armstrong.

Tomorrow is the Elite Men’s TT race in which Fabian Cancellara is by far the overwhelming favorite for the win on home soil. The two time TT World Champion, Olympic TT Gold Medalist and Olympic RR Bronze Medalist has stated that his goal is to win both the TT World Championship and the Road Race World Championship this year.
